ICTCT 2024
International Cooperation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic safety (ICTCT) is an international association aiming since 1988 at building up and sharing scientific knowledge on road safety, with a particular interest for methods that do not only rely on crash data but also on non-crash events. It does so by organizing conferences, courses and opportunities for knowledge transfer, all directed to a worldwide professional audience. ICTCT approaches safety as an integral part of the wider road traffic system, envisaging all transport modes with a specific emphasis on vulnerable road users.
The 36th ICTCT conference will take place in the Hague, the Netherlands, on 17–18 October 2024. The conference topic is ‘Inclusive and interdisciplinary road safety research’.
The demand for enhanced and inclusive road safety is becoming more critical than ever as societies face key challenges of increased urbanization, aging populations, and disruptive technologies while at the same time the numbers of road accidents and injuries remain high.
To be able to deal with these challenges, research is needed to develop knowledge on inclusive and safe road design, safe integration of heterogeneous road users, and inclusive road safety policies. This requires interdisciplinary and innovative research which combines different types of knowledge, data, and methods. The main theme of the conference addresses this issue.
A non-exhaustive list of topics includes:
- Safety of vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, pedestrians, children and older persons
- Vulnerable road users’ safety in low- and middle-income countries
- Vulnerable road users’ safety in interaction with new technologies
- Safe integration of micromobility in the transport system
- Inclusive road infrastructure design
- Safe mobility for people with disabilities or impairments
- Interdisciplinary road safety research
- Innovative research methodologies in road safety
- Inclusive road safety policies.
