For this reason, he investigated the effect of different levels of extraction pressure (6, 10 and 14 psi) with steam on the oil's performance, the physico-chemical characteristics and the chemical compounds for the punamuña essential oil (Satureja boliviana). The highest performance was obtained using an extraction pressure of 10 psi (0.38%). Density, acidity, peroxide index and refractive index were significantly influenced by extraction pressure. Thirty-two chemical compounds were identified using the three extraction pressures: pulegone, isomenthol and menthone at 6 psi; L-menthone, menthone and pulegone at 10 psi; and pulegone, thymol and p-mentona at 14 psi. Essential oils are influenced by the extraction pressure; here it was observed that a higher yield and number of chemical compounds are obtained at 10 psi, which in turn also results in adequate physical-chemical characteristics such as density, acidity and peroxide index that would also be related to the compound’s extracted chemicals.
